Youth Opportunities Development (YOD)
Empowering Clairton’s youth through daily mentoring, education, and recreation.
What We Do
Daily After-school Program
Our program provides homework help, academic lessons, mentoring, nutritious meals, and structured activities in a safe, supportive environment.
Educational Field Trips
Youth participate in 6+ field trips each year, exploring museums, cultural sites, outdoor recreation, STEM experiences, colleges, and community events.
Our Impact
We measure what matters — attendance, academics, behavior, engagement, and growth. YOD helps youth succeed inside and outside the classroom through consistent support and meaningful experiences.
80%
of YOD participants maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher during the school year.
70%
have one or fewer out-of-school suspensions, reflecting improved behavior and decision-making.
6+
educational field trips per student each year, expanding horizons through real-world learning.
5 days/wk
of daily programming, including mentoring, meals, academic support, and recreation.
Why YOD Matters
Clairton is a strong and resilient community, but many young people face challenges that impact their academic progress, confidence, and overall wellbeing. Youth need consistent support, positive relationships, and meaningful opportunities in order to grow and thrive.
YOD provides that stability every single day.
Through daily mentoring, academic support, enrichment, field trips, and caring adult guidance, we help youth build skills, discover new interests, and make positive choices. Our long-term approach allows students to stay connected for years, gaining the structure and encouragement they need to succeed in school and in life.
