Jon earned his MD Degree from the University of Utah School of Medicine, completed training in general, thoracic and vascular surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centers and was Director of the Surgical Residency Program and University of Pittsburgh Trauma Center.
Jon served as Chairman, Department of Surgery, UPMC-Shadyside from 1978-1988. He is co-founder of the Pittsburgh Regional Healthcare Initiative (PRHI) where he served as Medical Director for five years. The MRSA prevention model that emerged out of this collaborative effort in Southwestern Pennsylvania has inspired a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation funded initiative, supported by Plexus Institute, in which six beta site healthcare organizations used positive deviance as a cultural approach to fight MRSA.
Jon has served as Chairman of the Board for YOD since 2012.
